Every August, social media feeds fill with golden lions and announcements that a portal is opening, and breathless declarations that the 8th day of the 8th month is the moment Sirius aligns with the Sun in Leo and cosmic frequencies pour through and the number 8 amplifies everything, because the veil is thin and the gate is open and we should set our intentions accordingly.

And for a lot of people, they see it all filling their feed and sit there mid-scroll wondering how much of it’s actually real.

Beneath the internet hype & modern construction of the Lion’s Gate lies something truly meaningful that goes back thousands of years, to the lions that have guarded every threshold humans have ever built - from the walls of Babylon to the temples of Egypt, where Sekhmet stood lion-headed & solar-fired, the goddess of sacred rage & purification, in stone that predates the modern calendar by millennia. Something that the modern mystics who assembled the Lion’s Gate in the 1990s were half-reaching for without quite knowing they were.

The gate this week is real - it’s just older and stranger & more alive than the hashtag - and this year, it doesn’t just point backward into history, but forward into a sky that’s about to become extraordinary.

The Layers Beneath the Legend

The legend of the Lion’s Gate, according to social media, goes something like this - on the 8th day of the 8th month every year, a portal opens around the time the Earth, the Sun in Leo and Sirius (the brightest star in our sky) fall into alignment, and cosmic frequencies pour through, and the number 8 amplifies everything, so we should set our intentions accordingly, because the veil is thin.

The chatter and imagery on social media often gives the impression that this is some kind of ancient observance, but the notion of the Lion’s Gate as written above appears to have crystallised in its current form in the early 2000s, assembled from esoteric threads and channelled material written in the 1900s. So though it has the look and feel of something ancient, it’s not found in any ancient text, and it has no ancient astrological lineage east or west - it’s been popularised over the last thirty years by New Age writers weaving astrology together with numerology, Egyptology and the growing body of starseed literature into the specific practice millions observe today.

There’s no indication that the ancients observed a portal on the 8th day of the 8th month, because for most of human history, there was no 8th day of the 8th month to observe. August was Sextilis, the sixth month, back when the year began in March, and it only became the eighth month when January and February were moved to the front of the Roman calendar, and only got the name August when the Senate voted to honour Augustus in 8 BCE. The specific date then depends on the Gregorian calendar, which Pope Gregory XIII introduced in 1582 to correct drift in the Julian system. So for the ancient Egyptians to have encoded something into the 8th day of the 8th month, they would have needed to anticipate an imperial renaming and a papal calendar reform, which is a considerable amount of foresight to expect from people who, at the time, were still several thousand years away from meeting either Augustus or the Pope.

The Egyptians who watched for Sirius were watching for something real and observable - the star’s first reappearance at dawn after seventy days lost in the Sun’s glare, which opened their year and preceded the Nile flood. But they had no August and no eight to work with, and even if they did, when we look in the sky on the eighth day of the eighth month in our time, the Sun and Sirius sit thirty degrees apart, so there’s no alignment to observe, then or on any other day.

All that being said, the Lion’s Gate portal is not meaningless. There’s a genuine, deeper pattern here that’s very real and very old and very Lion-centric, and it’s worth considering as we approach this weekend’s gate, and the celestial events that follow it.

The Lions at Every Threshold

To understand the gate, we must understand the significance of the lions that have guarded thresholds for as long as we’ve been building them. In ancient Babylon, lions lined the walls of Ishtar’s Gate - fierce sentinels guarding the holy city. In Persia, they flanked the tombs of kings, watching over the soul’s journey beyond death. In Egypt, Sekhmet - the lion-headed goddess - embodied solar fire, sacred rage, and the power to purify through destruction.

In the Tarot, the lion in the Strength card doesn’t bow to brute force but yields only to the grace of inner mastery, and even in C.S. Lewis’s Narnia books, the same archetype lives in the divine lion Aslan, who sings existence into being and returns from death to break the spell of a frozen world.

In the Bible, the Lion of Judah roars with messianic force as a symbol of divine justice rising, and in Ezekiel’s vision, and again in Revelation, the throne of God is flanked by a lion, alongside an ox, a man, and an eagle - the guardians of the divine centre, and the four fixed signs of the zodiac; Leo, Taurus, Aquarius, Scorpio. The lion that guards the throne in scripture is the same lion that anchors one quarter of the celestial wheel.

And then there’s the Sphinx - one of the oldest lions of all, carved from the bedrock of the Giza plateau, its vast feline body facing due east, straight at the horizon where the Sun comes up, aligned to the equinox sunrise. For centuries, the Sphinx was thought to have been built around 2500 BCE, but in the 1990s, geologist Dr. Robert Schoch argued that the deep weathering on the monument could only have come from heavy rainfall that hadn’t touched the Giza Plateau since at least 7000 BCE, and then others, working from the precession of the constellations, dated it even earlier to around 10,500 BCE, when Leo would have risen at the equinox dawn directly in the Sphinx’s line of sight. Some have even theorised that the Sphinx may once have borne the full head of a lion, long before it was re-carved into the likeness of a Pharaoh - a lion in stone, watching its own likeness climb the horizon, is very possibly one of our world’s oldest monuments.

Throughout our history, the lion returns over and over as a symbol of strength guarding our gateways and ruling our mythology. Dolores Cannon posited a reason for this: that life on Earth may have, in fact, begun with Lions. Cannon’s work across a wave of channelled material, supported by regression accounts from people like Barbara Marciniak, Lyssa Royal Holt and Valerie Barrow, introduced the notion that “Ancient Ones” - lion-headed Lyrans said to exist in a state of light and sound rather than dense matter - were involved in the genetic tuning of early humanity. Feline in form and profoundly heart-centered, they are said to be guardians, architects, and warriors of consciousness, not conflict, whose energy carries wisdom, courage, and a deep, ancient sense of galactic memory.

Of course, there’s no peer-reviewed proof that lion-headed beings from Lyra seeded the Earth, but what’s undeniable is that we have been returning to the lion, over and over, ever since our ancestors carved its likeness into stone to greet the sky thousands of years ago, and whether it was the Lion of Judah roaring through scripture, or the lionesses of Lyra singing Earth into form, and whether we take all this as literal truth, mythic metaphor, or memory wrapped in symbol, each year at the Lion’s Gate, as we consider the Lion once again, we are being invited into a time of remembering.

Cannon suggested that Earth’s frequency would rise over the coming decades, and that the veil would thin and the old codes would awaken, and we would begin to remember not just who we are but where we are from, and perhaps that really is the significance of a portal like the Lion’s Gate. Myth speaks in frequency, not fact - it’s a mirror that names what lives in us - and the Lion’s Gate offers us the opportunity to tune to that ancient frequency that prompted those who came before us to carve a lion out of stone to face the rising Sun, and to remember why it mattered.

When a few million people turn their attention toward the same idea on the same day - for whatever reason, be it magic numbers, or planetary alignments, or the promise of manifestation - something real happens in the collective field, because attention is a force. Ritual works whether or not the story underneath it checks out, and the Lion’s Gate has become a genuine annual moment when an enormous number of people pause to look up, and ask themselves what they want, and that’s worth something regardless of its provenance.

Whatever the Lion’s Gate means to each of us individually, and whether or not it’s actually something ancient, the impulse underneath it stirs something as old as time itself - to stand at a threshold and turn toward the dawn, and remember who we are.

The Lion’s Gate doesn’t demand belief - it simply calls, and this week, it roars.

Total Eclipse of the Heart

As we pass through the Lion’s Gate and walk into August, we are also walking into eclipse season - with a Solar Eclipse in Leo on August 12 and the Lunar Eclipse in Pisces on August 28.

A solar eclipse is a new moon with the volume turned all the way up - it’s when the lights go out briefly on whatever the Sun represents, and something new can be seeded in the darkness before the light returns. The August 12 eclipse lands in Leo with company - Sun, Moon, Mercury and Jupiter are all gathered in the sign of the heart. Leo rules creative fire, sovereign self-expression, and the specific and irreplaceable thing each person came here to do. A solar eclipse already resets that frequency, but with four planets clustered in the same sign when it hits, the reset runs deeper and wider than usual - it’s not one voice being tuned, it’s a whole chorus.

An eclipse in Leo essentially resets the heart’s frequency by asking what the heart actually wants, that the head may have been overriding. Not what we’ve told ourselves we want or what others need from us, but the signal underneath all of that. With Jupiter amplifying everything in the same sign, what gets seeded here from our answer has genuine structural ambition, as if the eclipse is laying a foundation, asking us to build something from the heart outward, and handing us the materials to do it.

Two weeks later the Moon rises full in Pisces and is immediately eclipsed. Where the solar eclipse was fire and sovereignty and individual heart signal, this one is water and dissolution and the collective. The full Moon in Pisces is always the moment the personal returns to the ocean, but the eclipse makes that return non-negotiable, and the timing carries unusual weight. Neptune - the planet that rules Pisces - left the sign in January 2026 after fourteen years, and the North Node will leave Pisces just ten days before this eclipse, on August 18. This eclipse landing in Pisces will be one final deep reckoning in the sign that’s been releasing its long grip on the collective imagination.

These two eclipses are in conversation. The solar eclipse ignites the sovereign self. The lunar eclipse asks that self to surrender something it’s been holding for years. This is the end of something. Fourteen years of Neptunian fog, spiritual searching, the quiet collapse of old certainties, the dissolution of structures we thought were permanent. The lunar eclipse on August 28 asks us to grieve what’s finished, release what we’ve been carrying from that era, and let the tide go out on it for the last time.

What gives this eclipse season its real weight is that it’s really just an opening, leading us towards another eclipse next August - almost exactly one year from now - that will be a total solar eclipse crossing North Africa, with its path of totality running directly through Egypt. Through Luxor. Over the Valley of the Kings. Over Karnak’s Precinct of Mut, the greatest gathering of lion-goddess statuary humans ever made. That totality will last around six minutes and twenty seconds, making it one of the longest of the 21st century, and it will happen during Leo season, during next year’s Lion’s Gate window, in the sign these eclipses are currently clearing. The sky is preparing to literally draw a line through the greatest lion landscape on Earth - yet another invitation beckoning us to remember.

And as the path of totality sweeps across the ancient Nile landscape of lion temples next year, Venus will join the Sun in Leo; the planet of love, that governs what a culture values, what it considers worth creating, and what it will sacrifice for, standing at the heart of the solar fire in the sign of the heart. Venus trine Neptune the day before is the heart opening to something that exceeds the personal, and Mercury crossing into Leo the same morning is the mind finally stepping across into the domain it was always meant to serve. Then two weeks later the eclipse season closes with a lunar eclipse in Aquarius - the collective receiving what the Leo eclipse seeded. Heart to world. Fire into the field. This is the sky marking the moment a principle takes form - not just in us each individually, but in what we build together.

This year’s August eclipse is the opening, 2027 is the destination, and whatever is seeded under the Leo eclipse this month will be harvested when that path of darkness crosses the Nile in a year’s time. Two consecutive Leo eclipses, both falling in the Lion’s Gate window, with the second one tracing a line through the land where humans first carved a lion to face the sunrise.

What the Lion Has Always Known

The lion in every tradition - at the gates of Babylon, in Ezekiel’s throne vision, in Aslan’s first song, in the Sphinx’s east-facing gaze - carries the same essential quality beneath the power and the sovereignty; not strength for its own sake, but the courage to love in full view of the world, without armour, and without guarantee of return.

In the ancient mapping of the body onto the sky, Leo governs the heart, and the Sun, which rules Leo, is the heart of our solar system, the body everything else orbits. When Leo is ignited, what’s being activated is the heart’s intelligence, and when a Leo eclipse strikes, the heart goes dark in order to reset. But what’s happening with this sequence of Leo eclipses this year and next is not just a personal reset - it’s collective.

As these Leo eclipses darken the sky, simultaneously, the outer planets are doing something at a civilisational level that has no precedent in living memory. Pluto is in Aquarius, rewriting the operating system of collective power. Neptune has just entered Aries, the individual soul pushing back against institutional doctrine. Uranus has just entered Gemini, rewiring the way humanity thinks. And Saturn has just crossed into Aries, demanding that something new be built on individual sovereignty. These Leo eclipses aren’t happening against the backdrop of a blank sky - they’re firing into a sky that’s conjuring a civilisational inflection point.

For centuries, human civilisation has run primarily on the intelligence of the mind, and the results have been extraordinary - reason, analysis, evidence, and optimisation gave us medicine, technology, democratic institutions, and the accumulated knowledge of science. But they have also given us ecological collapse, a crisis of meaning so severe that record numbers of people in the most materially wealthy societies on Earth report their lives feel empty, and a technological acceleration nobody seems able to steer toward anything that actually matters. The head, running without the heart, optimises, and usually towards the wrong things, at increasing speed. And so it is, as the Age of the Mind reaches its zenith.

As Pluto in Aquarius rewrites the operating system of collective power, it’s asking each of us what the collective will organise itself around now, as we step into a new age. If we answer with the mind - as we have before - what we get will be dystopian; algorithm and surveillance, artificial intelligence outrunning human wisdom, and the dissolution of the individual into data. But if we seek the heart’s intelligence and allow the mind to be informed by the heart, we have the chance to build a society that has soul at its centre, with technology in service of human flourishing, that makes decisions based on what actually matters to people rather than what’s merely measurable.

The Leo eclipse sequence of 2026 and 2027 is seeding a principle into the collective field at the precise moment the collective field is being restructured by the most significant outer planet configuration in centuries, ensuring the next civilisation is built heart-first. Just as it seems like we might be destined to follow the mind over the cliff and into the abyss, the Leo eclipses arrive across the sky from Pluto in Aquarius - more exact next year even than this year - like the heart calling across to the people, to the collective soul, asking how personal sovereignty may become collective service. Pluto in Aquarius without Leo’s counterweight becomes technocracy - the collective organised around efficiency and control, and intelligence without warmth - but with the heart at its centre, it becomes something genuinely new: a civilisation as analytically powerful as the Enlightenment made us, and as wise as the heart has always been.

When Pluto rewires collective consciousness, it does it person by person, decision by decision, and community by community, until enough has shifted that the field itself changes. Collective fields are made of individuals, and there is no Aquarian future that doesn’t consist of the people who comprise it, so when the Leo eclipse asks each of us what our heart knows that our head has been overriding, it isn’t asking a small question. Every person who brings their heart back online as a primary navigational instrument - who makes decisions from that place, and builds from that frequency, and refuses to let the algorithm set the agenda for their life - is contributing to the field that Pluto is trying to shift. The individual answer and the civilisational answer are the same answer, arriving from different scales.

The Gate is Open

In all the noise of golden lions and manifestation scripts and portal announcements this month, the sky is really only asking one question:

What does your heart know that your head has been telling you to ignore?

The answer is each of ours to find individually, but what we do with it is everyone’s. Here, in the midst of political chaos, and ecological disaster, and the acceleration of technology past the point where anyone seems able to steer it - as the wheels are coming off at every level simultaneously, and nobody in charge quite knows what to do about it - the sky is calling the heart back online, personally and collectively, not after the crisis, but right in the middle of it. It’s the only instrument fit to navigate our way through.

The mind built an extraordinary civilisation, but it also built us to the very edge of what a mind-only operating system can sustain, and right here, at the moment that system is most visibly straining, the Leo eclipses are arriving to seed the intelligence we’ve been running without. The heart doesn’t return because things got easier, but because we’ve reached the place where the mind, alone, can’t get us home.

An eclipse looks like the light going out. From inside the path of totality, the sky goes dark in the middle of the day - temperatures drop, birds fall silent, stars appear where the sun was, and something ancient and primal moves through everyone standing under it. And then the light returns, not weakened, but clarified.

What looks like humanity going over the cliff right now may be us just going through the eclipse. The darkness isn’t evidence that the light has failed - it’s the mechanism by which something new gets seeded. The eclipses coming this month - and the one same time next year, as Venus stands at the heart of the Leo Sun over the ancient landscape of Egypt in 2027 - aren’t responding to comfortable times. They’re responding to these times. The sky is not indifferent to what’s happening down here. It’s responding to it, directly, with the one thing that’s been missing.

Which brings us back to the golden lions, as our feeds fill with them this week, and a few million of us write down what we want, not really sure if the number 8 actually amplifies anything, while Sirius and the Sun sit thirty degrees apart and the veil is exactly as thick as it was a week ago. And yet, for all the holes in the mechanism, it will still be meaningful, because the instinct underneath the ritual - to stand at a threshold in the season of the lion, and turn toward the dawn, and ask what we actually want - is the same instinct that raised the Sphinx to face the sunrise, and the same one that took the Egyptians out into the pre-dawn dark to watch for a star coming home.

The Lion’s Gate is calling our attention this week, and something genuine happens when people across the world all turn toward the same threshold on the same morning, whatever story we tell ourselves about why - and this year the sky has arranged to meet us there. The world may look like it’s going over the cliff - and some of it probably is - but the sky has our back.

The gate is open.
It has been open a very long time.
The heart is coming back online.

All we have to do is let it.

There’s a theory older than Christianity by six centuries - threaded through the writings of Plato, through the Orphics, through the mystics of the ancient world - that says we each chose our life before we are born. That it was laid out for us like a map, and we agreed to it, and then agreed to forget, and then hid the map in the sky so we could find it again if we needed it.

The ancients believed the map written in the stars was like a Blueprint - a manual that could reveal why we are built the way we are. Why we love the way we love, want what we want, and carry the weight we carry. Why certain chapters feel like everything is falling apart. Why certain people arrive in our life exactly when they do. And what, beneath all of it, our soul actually came here to do.

And they left us clues on how to read it.

The Hidden Map in the Heavens

I was raised, like so many of us in the Western world, in a Christian home where I was taught that when I die my soul would leave my body and ascend to the Pearly Gates for judgement. If I lived a good life, I’d be accepted into heaven, and if I lived a bad life, I’d be cast into the flames. I spent my first thirty years in this body doing everything I could to avoid those flames.

As I journeyed through life, I came to realise that what I was taught may not have been the whole story, and so I spent a lot of time delving into ancient texts and other older teachings, searching for understanding about what our soul is actually doing here, and what I found turned the whole story inside out. I realised it wasn't about where we go when we die - it’s about where we come from before we're born.

Around 380 BCE, Plato explored the concept of life after death in the Myth of Er about a soldier who dies in battle, but instead of crossing over into the after life, he watches from outside his body the process that occurs between lives. Er sees souls being presented with possible lives, laid out before them like patterns on the ground, and choosing. Each soul deliberates and picks up a lot - a life that will be its next. Some choose wisely, and some choose from habit, from longing, from unfinished business, and then they walk to a great plain and drink from the River Lethe - the river of Forgetting. And there, they are born into their next life, knowing nothing of what they chose.

The Orphics of ancient Greece seemed to share this understanding. From at least the 6th century BCE, they buried their dead with gold tablets carrying instructions for what came next. “Do not drink from the Pool of Lethe,” were the words inscribed. “Seek instead the Pool of Mnemosyne - Memory.” If the soul found it, it was to say, “I am a child of Earth and starry Heaven, but my race is of Heaven alone.” The ancient Greeks believed so fervently that the stars are the origin, Earth is the place of forgetting, and the path home runs through memory, that they etched those words into metal and sent it with the dead, burying those gold tablets in graves across Greece and Italy, twenty-five centuries ago.

Between the 3rd and 5th centuries CE, mystics and metaphysicians like Plotinus, Porphyry, and Macrobius built on this understanding, developing a framework that became known as Neoplatonism - a precise cosmology of the soul’s descent into incarnation. According to their writings, the soul doesn’t simply fall into a body - it descends through the planetary spheres, one by one, and at each sphere it acquires something.

From Saturn: the capacity for reason, structure, deep time.
From Jupiter: the instinct for authority and purposeful action.
From Mars: drive, will, courage, the readiness to fight.
From the Sun: perception, imagination, the sense of self.
From Venus: desire, beauty, the pull toward love.
From Mercury: language, interpretation, the gift of mind.
From the Moon: the capacity to finally inhabit a body at all.

By the time the soul arrives, it’s wearing all of these qualities - gathered sphere by sphere, in a specific configuration, at a specific moment of descent, and all of it can be read in a natal chart - a snapshot of the sky at the time of birth, a literal record of the soul’s passage through the celestial spheres. It captures what the soul acquired on the journey down, in what proportion, in what relationship to everything else. The moment of birth is the moment the descent completed, and the sky at that moment holds the entire trajectory. According to Macrobius, an astrological natal chart is the imprint of the soul’s movement through the heavens - a Blueprint the soul authored on its way in.

Rudolf Steiner, in the early 20th century, was among the first modern thinkers to translate all of this into practical language: that between death and rebirth, souls review their past life, identify what remains unresolved, and design the next incarnation to address it - choosing parents, circumstances, the specific encounters that will carry the work forward. The natal chart, in his framework, is the visible trace of decisions made before the descent began.

This understanding that runs through the writing of Plato through the Orphics through the Neoplatonists through Steiner, also underpins Michael Newton’s Journey of Souls, and Christian Sundberg’s A Walk in the Physical - in which Sundberg describes his own retained memory of being shown his life as a map before he came in, and then the veil descending, and then the plummet into a body.

That’s the understanding that is older and deeper than what many of us were taught. That before we enter our human bodies - when we are pure consciousness without form - we choose the life we will enter. It's laid out before us like a map - not of where we must go, but of everywhere we might. Like a tree in full spread, every branch a road, every fork a choice. We choose our parents and our siblings, we choose the home we will be born into and the shape of the life we will inhabit.

And then, we agree to forget.

The Veil and The Forgetting

Before we enter the body, we agree to the veil. The shroud that is placed over us that allows us to forget that we are infinite, and allows us to exist in the body with no memory that we are in fact the consciousness that created that body in the first place. The fullness of our experience in human form depends on us forgetting, so we allow the weight of a body and the brightness of the world and the sheer volume of being human to fold itself over the deeper knowing we carry.

We agree to forget so that we may experience the full range of human emotion. If we remembered coming in that we were divine, we would have no reason to ever experience fear, or anger, or sadness, or grief - and though it’s hard to imagine, those are the emotions we came here to wrestle with. We came to experience what it is to feel finite, because at the level of the soul we are anything but.

And though we agreed to forget, we did what any sensible soul would do before a long journey into amnesia, and we left ourselves a map hidden in the sky. At the exact moment each of us is born, the planets are arranged in a configuration that has never existed before and will never exist again. A pattern sealed at the precise moment we each take our first breath.

That pattern is our natal chart.

The Memory in the Sky

The map, it turns out, is more detailed than most people imagine.

The Sun tells us the quality of light we’re here to express - the particular frequency of energy our soul came to radiate. It’s the hero of our story. The role we’re still growing into.

The Moon speaks to our emotional body. Our instincts. The self that exists before we put on our public face. A Moon placement will often explain why someone feels like an entirely different creature in private than they do in public - because often, they are.

Our Rising is the costume we wore for our entrance. And like a good actor, we grow into it over time. The most evolved version of a person tends to look more like their Rising than their Sun.

Saturn’s position in the map shows where the difficult terrain is. It’s the part of the map that indicates where we will be tested, but also where our greatest authority will eventually live - because the places that cost us the most tend to become the places that make us.

The North Node is the point in the chart that marks the direction the map is pointing us. Not where we’ve been - that’s the South Node, the comfortable territory, the patterns we return to without thinking. The North Node is the edge. The unfamiliar country. The road our soul came to travel, even when it’s the one that feels most uncertain.

Mars shows the quality of our fire - how we pursue, how we fight, how we show up when something actually matters to us. Venus shows what pulls us like gravity - what we find beautiful, what we consider worth having, and what calls to us before we've had time to think about it.

The twelve houses - twelve domains of life, from the most private self to the most public - tell us which of these energies are living in which rooms of our life. And the geometric relationships between planets - the aspects - are the internal architecture of the map: where the roads run parallel, where they intersect, where they pull against each other. A chart with a lot of tension in its architecture isn’t a difficult map to live. It’s usually a rich one. Friction is what makes something.

The Deeper Layers of the Map

And then there are the layers that go deeper still.

The asteroid goddesses - Chiron, Ceres, Vesta, Juno, Pallas - appear in the map like detailed annotations in the margins, marking territory the main chart only names in passing. Chiron shows where the wound lives, and where the gift inside the wound is waiting. Vesta marks what we tend to with something close to devotion. Ceres speaks to how we grieve and how we nurture and what we reach for when the world gets heavy. Pallas illuminates not how intelligent we are, but how our mind actually works - what patterns it sees that others miss.

The fixed stars are something older again. They’re the writing underneath the map - older than the map itself, older than the planetary names, older than the traditions that gave us astrology as we know it. Each one carries a myth, a temperament, a long lineage of meaning. When one lands on a significant point in our chart, it places our individual story inside a much older mythic frame - one our soul chose to be born under.

And the map has a time dimension. A natal chart isn’t static - it’s more like a musical score, and every year the sky plays a different movement of it. The planets in the sky right now are in constant dialogue with the planets in our birth chart. Sometimes that dialogue is a murmur, and sometimes it announces itself by bringing an entire chapter of our life to an end. These are called transits, and they’re where the map shows us not just the terrain, but when we’re in it; when we’re crossing open ground, when we’re climbing, and when the road ahead is asking something specific of us.

And when we lay one natal chart over another - a partner, a parent, a creative collaborator - we can see the way two souls are wired to encounter each other. Where they mirror, where they challenge, where they complete, and what they came to each other to work out.

All of this is in the map that we left for ourselves before we crossed over.
The one that has been in the sky the whole time, waiting for us to remember we wrote it.

Directions and Discoveries

My own exploration of these ancient teachings eventually led me to the map I'd hidden in the sky for myself, and reading it profoundly changed my life. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of reading for many others over the years as well, helping them to understand their own Blueprint. It’s always an honor to be part of that moment of recognition that happens when someone feels truly seen for the first time - when they recognise themselves clearly reflected back in the stars.

The most common thing people say, in some version or another, is “I’ve always known this about myself. I just never had words for it.” That’s what the map does - it gives language to something that’s always been true.

Some discoveries are tender. The person who has spent their whole life feeling like they want too much finds their Moon in a placement that explains exactly why they’re built that way. Like a permission slip from the sky to stop apologising for how they love. Or the person who has always carried a low hum of restlessness, a sense that they’re supposed to be doing something they haven’t quite found yet, meets their North Node and feels the relief of recognising unfamiliar territory as theirs. They aren’t lost - they’re just not yet where they’re headed.

Some discoveries are about the past. The years that felt like nothing was working become legible when we see what was moving through the chart at that time, as if the sky was taking apart something that needed to come down, to make room for what was ready to be built. Knowing that doesn’t undo those years, but it changes what they mean. Some of the most significant moments I witness in this work are when someone understands, for the first time, that their hardest chapter wasn’t a detour from their story - it was the story.

Some discoveries are about other people. Laying two charts over each other - a marriage, a long friendship, a parent and child - shows the geometry of that bond in a way nothing else quite reaches. Why a particular person arrived at a particular moment in your life, and what you carry for each other, and what the sky is asking of the two of you right now. People often come to a relationship reading looking for answers and what they tend to find instead is understanding, which turns out to be more useful.

And some discoveries are about what’s coming. The chapters that are opening, the invitations the sky is extending, the places where the road is asking something specific of us. Knowing the terrain allows us to stop wondering why the road feels the way it does, and start walking it with our eyes open.

The question I hear most often, after someone has sat with their chart for the first time, is some version of “Why didn’t I know about this sooner.”

I don’t have a good answer for that.
Only that the map has always been there.
And it’s never too late to remember you wrote it.

The other day I shared a post on social media about the latest horror show to tumble out of the White House, followed by the prevailing astrology that explained why it was happening now.

In this wild time we’re living through, I’m always trying to offer context, and little reminders that though it may feel like our world is collapsing, it’s all just part of a larger cycle, lurching from collapse to renewal and back again, on repeat. Right, now we’re in a season of breakdown, en route to a season of renewal, and when you’re staring into the abyss, sometimes it helps to know it’s just winter, and spring is on its way.

Anyway, someone commented:
“I loved everything you wrote until you got to the astrology nonsense.”

Classic. I get this kind of thing all the time.
“You had me until you mentioned Pluto.”

And honestly, I don’t mind. It doesn’t bother me anymore.
In fact, it often opens the door to a real conversation, like it did that day,
and sometimes, it even leads to making a new friend.

Somewhere along the thread, another person chimed in:
“I don’t believe in astrology.”

And suddenly, we were having that chat,
the one where astrology is treated like Santa Claus,
the Easter Bunny, or a cryptic tale from the Book of Genesis.

There’s only so much room to respond on social media,
and I come up against that kind of statement so often,
I’ve decided to craft a response below that I can share
the next time someone mistakes astrology for a belief system.

So here, friends, is what I wanted to say that day,
but I couldn’t manage in 140 characters.
Here it is, publicly, clearly, and loudly, once and for all…..

I don’t believe in astrology either.

Astrology is not a religion.
It’s not a cult.
It’s not a replacement for science, or therapy, or common sense.
I don’t attend the Church of Pluto in Aquarius.
(Though if it existed, the sermons would be epic.)

Astrology isn’t something you believe in,
any more than you believe in spring, or tides, or gravity, or oxygen.

These things don’t require our belief.
They just are, whether we like it or not.

You can choose not to believe in autumn, if you wish,
but the leaves will still fall from the trees.
You can choose not to believe in night and day,
but the sun will still set, all the same.

These things are cycles.
They happen on repeat.
And each time they happen,
we can track how they happen,
so we’re better prepared the next time they do.

They don’t need your belief.
But you’d be wise to observe.

And that’s why I pay attention to astrology.
Not because I’m obsessed with stars.
But because I’m fascinated by patterns.

The Pattern in the Skies

Humans have always studied patterns and cycles.
There’s evidence of astrology being practiced as far back as 6,000 years ago.
That makes it older than the wheel.
Older than writing.
Older than math.
Older than the Bible, Buddhism, Plato, and Pythagoras.
Older than pyramids, philosophy, or the concept of time as we understand it.

Before humans could spell their own names, they were tracking the stars.
Before we had clocks, we had constellations.
Before there was language, there was the sky.

Astrology is not new.
Disbelief in it is.

We track celestial bodies for all kinds of every day things, and don’t think it strange.
We track the orbit of the Earth around the Sun and call it a year.
We divide that year into seasons.
And because we understand the rhythm of those seasons,
we don’t panic when winter comes.

We don’t run around screaming that the world is ending
just because the lake froze over.

We know spring is coming.
We know the flowers will bloom again.
We plan for it.
We adapt to it.
We even build entire cultures around it.

Same with the tides….
we know the Moon pulls the water in and out,
like the breath of the ocean.
We know the full moon tends to stir the emotions.
(Police, nurses, and parents of toddlers can confirm).

So if we already accept that the position of the Earth relative to the Sun shapes the seasons, and that the Earth’s position relative to the Moon shapes the tides…..

Why is it so hard to imagine that the Earth’s position relative to other planets might shape other things in our world?

It’s All Just Cosmic Weather

We’re already living by a multitude of cosmic patterns.

We call it the weather forecast, or low and high tide,
or summer, winter, autumn, spring.

It’s all patterns and cycles, just like astrology,
only astrology zooms the lens out a little further.
It says: here’s where the planets are now, and when they were in this exact position in the past, here’s how things played out, and maybe……just maybe……something similar will play out again.

It’s not fortune telling.
It’s cycle tracking.
It’s watching the sky for weather,
and learning how to dress for it.

Nobody bats an eyelid when you tell them to dust off their mittens and jumpers because winter’s coming.

But tell them that things might start falling apart as Pluto’s moves into Aquarius - because every time Pluto has been in Aquarius for the last few thousand years, society has gone through a massive upheaval - and they might start looking at you like you need a good lie down.

But you needn’t lie down, because you’re not crazy.
You’re just observing a clear and obvious pattern.
We call it chaos because we don’t remember it’s a cycle.
But history does.
And Pluto remembers everything.

Proof of a Pattern

Every time Pluto has been in Aquarius, we’ve seen society rupture and rewire.
Every single time for hundreds of years,
that’s what happens when Pluto is in Aquarius,
just like it snows when it’s winter, or it’s dark in the night.

Last time Pluto was in Aquarius in the 1770’s,
the American War of Independence was raging.
So was the French Revolution.
“We the People” became a slogan.
Society cracked, and something entirely new was born.

The time before that, in the 1530’s,
Martin Luther took on the Church in the Reformation,
and Copernicus dared to say the Earth wasn’t the center of the universe.
It was a time of revolution and revelation,
when everything we thought was fixed turned out not to be.

Now Pluto’s back in Aquarius for the next 20 years, and surprise…..
systems are crumbling and nobody knows who’s in charge anymore.
Sound familiar? See the pattern?

It’s visible with other planets too.

Mars is like a match, hitting hard, fast, and suddenly.
It was square Uranus when the Berlin Wall fell.
It was conjunct Saturn when the Twin Towers came down.
Mars arrives like ignition, and every time it lands just right,
it sets off a spark….and KABOOM.

There’s a pattern with Uranus is in Gemini as well.
It’s like a harbinger of battle and war,
whenever the planet of disruption meets the sign of communication.
Last time (the 1940’s) was the height of World War II.
The time before that (the 1770’s), the American Revolution.
And now Uranus is back in Gemini,
and this time the battlefield is language, media, and the mind.
Words start wars, ideas go viral, and truth is up for review.

It’s all a pattern.
Every planet, every sign.
A predictable, revolving cycle.

The Six Thousand Year Study

Whether we’re talking about seasonal weather or cosmic weather,
we’re talking about the same thing.

It’s all the movement of celestial bodies and how they track against life on Earth.
It’s all about where our planet is in relation to another giant rock or ball of gas in space, and what tends to happen when it gets there.

That’s not “woo”.
That’s pattern recognition.
And it’s been studied, tracked, and documented for thousands of years.

Tell someone summer’s coming, they smile and grab their swimmers.
Tell someone Mercury retrograde’s coming,
and they roll their eyes like you’ve just told them Bigfoot reads their aura.

But both are forecasts.
Both are based on real cycles.
The only difference is that one’s socially accepted,
and the other makes people uncomfortable
because it threatens the illusion of control.

We used to trust astrology the way we now trust science and technology.
Up until the 1800s, you couldn’t be a doctor without also being an astrologer.
There isn’t an ancient ruler in history who didn’t have an astrologer in their court.

But somewhere along the way, we stopped looking to the stars for guidance.
We forgot there’s a divine map written in the skies.
We began to see the stars as something to conquer, not something to consult.
We relegated our oldest compass to the realm of carnival barkers,
and forgot our place in the universe.

These days, people dismiss astrology
because they don’t believe the stars control our destiny.
Fair enough.
I don’t either.

Because astrology doesn’t cause things.
The stars aren’t making anything happen.
They’re just reflecting what’s already unfolding,
like a mirror, or a weather vane.
They’re giving us a map to guide the way forward.
Clues on when to rest, when to act, when to grieve, when to revolt.

When to carry an umbrella.
Or start a revolution.

Truth Requires No Belief

So these days when people ask me, “Do you really believe in astrology?”
My answer is always the same.

No.
I don’t “believe” in astrology,
not the way one believes in goblins,
or the Tooth Fairy,
or stories whispered around a campfire.

I study it.
Like a weather map that happens to be 6,000 years old.
Because every time the planets show up in the same signs,
so do the patterns.

Astrology doesn’t require your belief.
It just invites you to pay attention.
To notice what happens when certain cosmic rhythms repeat.
To consider the possibility that Earth is not separate from the rest of the sky,
but part of it, in constant dialogue with it.

I’m not trying to sell anyone stardust or superstition.
I’m just saying, like any good season, it helps to know what’s coming,
so you know whether to plant, harvest, or hunker down.

If that’s nonsense to you, that’s fine.
I’m not here to convert.

But I am here to remind you:

The sky has always had something to say.
To those who are willing to listen.

“If everything is written in the stars,
but all paths are possible…..
can you walk a path that isn’t written?”

This is the question a member of the Inner Circle asked me recently after I had written their Astro Blueprint based on their astrological birth chart.

We were discussing the windows of energetic possibility that lie ahead for them, according to their chart, when they posed this question, and it’s been echoing ever since.

I’ve asked the question myself.
I think we all have at one point or another.
Because for anyone walking a spiritual path,
who looks to the stars for guidance, meaning and clarity,
this is the paradox that haunts every choice we make.

Are we following fate, or forging something new?
Are we fulfilling destiny, or dodging it?

Your birth chart is a snap shot of the sky at the time you were born,
and by tracking the movement of the planets across your lifetime,
you can predict the windows of energetic possibility you will encounter throughout your life.

But, what if you don’t like any of the available windows?
Can you dig an energetic tunnel to a different timeline?
Can you jump the track and take a path not written in the stars?
Is everything pre-destined?
Do we even have free will?

I spent most of my life thinking astrology was complete nonsense, until I had a stranger read my chart for me in my late 30’s and discovered that every intricate detail of the life I had lived to that point was etched in the sky. It was so accurate, and so precise, I couldn’t ignore it.

But then I started asking this same question.
Did I choose any of this, or was it all chosen for me?

Did I create my own reality?
Or was I just following a pre-destined map the whole time?

This question is as old as time itself,
and the answer - ironically - is written in the stars.

The Stars Are a Mirror, Not a Master

The stars don’t dictate.
They reflect.

Your birth chart isn’t a prison sentence.
It’s a mirror of your soul’s architecture.
A multi-dimensional blueprint filled with thousands of possible timelines, paths, choices, and identities - all encoded as potential, not prescription.

Even if you don’t believe in astrology, you’ve probably felt it…..
the eerie alignment of timing,
the sudden opening of a door you didn’t knock on,
the moment your life veered left when logic said right.

So when someone says “It’s written in the stars”, what they should mean is:

“This possibility is present in your field.”

But just because something is present doesn’t mean it will be chosen.

And that’s where free will comes in - not to defy the stars,
but to activate which part of them comes alive.

Timeline Braiding: The Spiral Within

Your chart holds multitudes.
Think of it like a song with infinite remixes.
Some paths play naturally, like an easy melody.
Others are buried in silence until you make a choice brave enough to shake the air.

Every decision you make shifts frequency.
You say yes to the hard truth, and that activates Timeline A.
You shrink into fear, and that sends you on Timeline B.
You collapse completely and rise from ash, and SURPRISE - Timeline F just unlocked.

The stars predict that a wave is coming.
It’s up to you if you ride that wave, or dive beneath it,
Or let it wipe you out and wash you up onto the shore.

All energetic possibilities exist - even your detours are still “written”.
You can’t leave the stars, but you can walk the same lesson a hundred times before finally breaking the pattern.

So the question isn’t, “Am I on the path?”
It’s, “Which version of the path am I walking right now?”

The Hidden Path: Where Most Never Go

There are buried codes in your chart.
Paths that are real, but dormant,
until you suffer enough, awaken enough,
or love enough to crack them open.

This is the path of the mystic, the artist, the survivor, the worldbuilder.
It’s the one that seems not written, because it doesn’t show up front and centre in your “career report” or daily horoscope.

But it’s there, waiting in the underlayer.
Dig beneath the layers, and you’ll find it.
It’s that digging that activates it.
It comes online when you start asking real questions.

“What if I’m not here to play the role I was assigned?”
“What if the betrayal was the beginning?”
“What if I was never meant to fit this world, but to change it?”

This hidden path doesn’t scream - it whispers.
It might show up as a persistent dream,
a creative nudge you’ve ignored for years,
or a heartbreak that cracks you open just wide enough to feel your real purpose pulse through.

It’s the love you were too scared to choose.
It’s the life you nearly walked away from.
It’s the thing you were told was “impractical” but still lives in your chest like a drumbeat.

That’s when the hidden path starts humming.
That’s when your chart reconfigures,
not because the stars changed - but because you did.

You Are the Stars

At the deepest level, there is no separation between your soul and the sky.
You don’t follow the stars.
You are the stars.

The chart is your fingerprint in the cosmos.
It doesn’t trap you.
It reveals you.

And when you finally walk with your soul fully online and fully awake,
you don’t need to ask if the path is written.

Because you’re the one writing it.

So, can you walk a path not written in the stars?

No, because nothing is outside the stars.
But yes, you can walk the path most never see.
The hidden one.
The holy one.
The one that only opens when you remember who you really are.

Ask yourself today:
What part of me have I buried?
And what might happen if I dared to unearth it?

That path is not found.
It’s forged.

Long before Babylon.
Before Egypt.
Before what we call “history.”
There were those who looked up and noticed.

Today we call it astrology.

They say astrology began with the Babylonians, who charted the stars and divined omens from planetary movement. And yes - around 4000 years ago, in the fertile crescent of Mesopotamia, the first organized system of celestial signs appeared in writing. Clay tablets. Sky omens. Kings advised by priests who watched the heavens.

But that’s not where it began.

Because the patterns they recorded had already been watched.
Tracked.
Confirmed over centuries.
Some planetary cycles take 200 years or more to repeat.
To even notice that rhythm, let alone name it, would’ve taken generations of dedicated sky observation.

What we now call astrology?
It was built by hundreds of lifetimes staring at the same sky.

The oldest science we have

Before the telescope,
before timekeeping,
before written language -
there was the sky.

It was the first clock.
The first compass.
The first calendar.

Evidence suggests even Paleolithic peoples tracked the Moon’s phases, possibly recording them in notched bones over 30,000 years ago. By 10,000 BCE, sites like Göbekli Tepe were already aligned to solstices and celestial markers. We’re told it’s the earliest known temple.

But Göbekli Tepe doesn’t feel like a beginning.
It feels like a preservation.

Like a memory someone was trying not to lose.
As if they were reconstructing knowledge from somewhere older,
somewhere deeper - perhaps from a time that didn’t survive the flood.

Pattern is ancient. Pattern is power.

To understand astrology, you don’t need to believe in fate.
You need to understand repetition.

The stars rise and fall in precise cycles.
Mars loops back every 2 years.
Jupiter returns to its place every 12.
Saturn takes nearly 30.
Pluto needs 248 years to make one full orbit through the sky.

Imagine the kind of attention it takes to notice that.
To track it.
To confirm it.
And to pass that observation on for ten generations,
until a pattern becomes a principle.

That’s not superstition. That’s cosmic timekeeping.
A science so slow and sacred that most modern minds have forgotten how to see it.

Astrology was never just “belief.”

It was record-keeping.
It was memory.
It was the act of noticing the sky and realizing it was not random.

Early astrologers didn’t separate observation from meaning.
If Venus disappeared, they knew she would return.
If a red star hovered at the edge of the night, they knew the fires would follow.
If a comet split the sky, it wasn’t just beautiful - it was a signal.

Not magic.
Not metaphor.
Just a world that still spoke in symbols - and people who still listened.

So where did astrology begin?

It didn’t begin.
It unfolded - over centuries, over lives, over long and loyal watching.
Passed from stone to sky to scribe.

It is the story of humanity noticing something greater, and choosing not to forget.

And if some of that knowledge came from somewhere older,
Somewhere buried beneath the layers of flood and fire and forgetting,
Well, maybe it’s not our job to prove it.

Where It All Began

Long before telescopes, smartphones, or even written history, humans looked up at the sky and noticed patterns. The rising of certain stars predicted the flooding of rivers. The return of particular constellations heralded seasons of planting, hunting, migrating, or resting.

The sky wasn’t decoration - it was survival.
It was the first clock, the first calendar, the first compass.

Over time, a deeper noticing emerged:
When Mars burned brightly, wars tended to break out.
When Venus rose high, marriages and alliances flourished.
The movements above weren’t causing events - they seemed to mirror them.

This noticing became a system. And that system - refined over thousands of years - became astrology.

Is Astrology Scientific?

Depends who you ask.

Modern science is built on explaining why things happen - cause and effect. Astrology, on the other hand, is built on noticing that things happen together - correlation, not causation.

For example: We know the Moon pulls the tides. That's a gravitational fact. But we also know that hospital births, ER visits, and emotional flare-ups spike during the full moon. Is it irrational to think celestial forces could affect human bodies, moods, and patterns? Or is it simply incomplete science - a frontier we haven’t fully mapped yet?

Astrology isn’t here to replace science. It’s here to remind us that life might be more interconnected - more resonant - than our current models allow.

The Sky as a Mirror (Not a Puppet Master)

Let’s clear up another big misunderstanding:

Astrology doesn’t say that planets control you.
You are not a puppet on cosmic strings.

Instead, astrology suggests that life moves in patterns - tides, cycles, rhythms - and the movements of the sky reflect those tides back to us.

It’s like a cosmic weather forecast. When the meteorologist says a storm is coming, you don’t assume they caused the rain. You just grab an umbrella.

Astrology simply offers a way to see the energetic "weather" we're moving through - so we can choose how to meet it, rather than being knocked around by it.

Why Astrology Hasn’t Gone Away

If astrology were nonsense, it would have disappeared like so many other ancient ideas. Instead, it has quietly threaded itself through every major civilization - Babylonian, Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Islamic, Medieval, Renaissance - right up to now.

Even modern psychology owes it a debt: Carl Jung (the father of analytical psychology) openly used astrology to better understand archetypes and human behavior.

Maybe astrology has endured because it taps into something we all instinctively know:
That life is not random. That patterns repeat. That we are part of something much bigger, much older, and much more intricate than we usually let ourselves believe.
