No coincidence that yesterday was my late husband's birthday and today I formulated a way to actually move on. (For five years after his death his things were in storage while I shared space with my sister; then I moved into my own place and retrieved 32 boxes of mainly vintage vinyl record albums, among other things, and reshelved them almost as though he'd be back for them.) Nobody has touched them, but next month will mark seven years since his death and green burial and I decided this morning I will finally play some of the albums while culling them between now and then, so much if not all of these shelving units will be transformed into a new home for my dharma books and other memorabilia by the time I've finished. I'm thinking of it as a form of soul-retrieval for all that death and other losses have taken from me throughout my own life. It is a key part of my moving forward, and not a bit of it was in my mind before I woke up this morning. Thanks for the inspiration!

Playing the records while you cull them is exactly right. Not moving past him - moving through. And soul-retrieval is exactly what this is - perfectly said. Seven years is a real threshold. I'm glad something in these words met you at the door of it.
