Dear friends,
Some weeks go by and are easily forgotten. This is one our grandchildren will be told about. And they’ll tell their children.
This week, America votes just days before Britain celebrates Bonfire Night, where, for the last four hundred years, the nation has burned Guy Fawkes in effigy for trying to blow up the government. “Remember, remember, the fifth of November,” goes the old rhyme, and now all these years later, another man is trying to blow up the government, only this time it’s the man on the throne who’s stacking the barrels, and he’s stacking them against the ballot box.
But this week’s vote - taking place under the same sky that hung over Guy Fawkes’ cellar in 1605, with the Sun and Mercury together in Scorpio, the sign of what’s hidden and who really holds the power - is only the beginning of a longer story. The election is the first chapter - the sky has a whole road laid out from here through to January when the next Congress is seated - and beyond - and it’s riddled with legal challenges, the threat of war, fury, danger, escalation and chaos.
The mad king is about to get angrier, and louder, as we hurtle through these next few months, past the deadline when the government’s money runs out just before Christmas, to when the party that props him up will be asked if it still wants its dear leader.
This is big, friends. These are monumental times we are living through. The coming weeks are going to be noisy, and sometimes it’ll feel like the whole house is coming down. Thankfully, the sky has given us a map, offering clues as to how the vote shakes out, who takes the reins of power, and what comes next as the light begins to fade out on the man who tried to rule America, and fades up on the people who will hold him to account.
That’s as much as I’ll say out here - the detailed map of the coming week as well as the months ahead is below, with clues as to which way the sky says the vote is leaning.
