This week the sky hands us a map of the months ahead.
On Friday, Pluto - the planet of power and everything buried underneath it - stops in the sky and turns forward in Aquarius, the sign of the crowd. It’s been walking backwards since May. The last time Pluto turned forward on this stretch of sky was October 1780, with the American Revolution in its final stretch and the French one a few years away. This time it turns eighteen days before America votes in its midterm elections, and the same questions are on everyone’s lips…..
Will the vote hold?

The sky shows a result, a refusal and a long, loud standoff, and it shows which way the current runs underneath all three. Donald Trump’s chart is about to get very loud. I’ll unpack his chart, and America’s, and lay out the shape of the upcoming election and the aftermath below. Some of what’s coming will feel dangerous, but a storm we can see coming is a storm we can walk through.
On a personal level, Pluto turning direct will have meaning for each of us as well. Since May we’ve all been quietly propping something up out of fear, and quietly deciding we’re done, and as Pluto turns forward, that decision gets to become a fact.
If your birthday falls between about the 20th and the 29th of January, April, July or October, Pluto turns right on top of you. If you were born around the turn of March into April, in the first days of August or the first days of December, Friday’s steady courage is yours to use.
