The Earth has shifted its poles before. At least 183 times in recorded geological history, the planet’s magnetic field has collapsed and rebuilt itself around a new north. The last full reversal was 780,000 years ago, but 42,000 years ago, during what scientists now call the Laschamps excursion, it very nearly happened again when the field dropped to a fraction of its strength, the poles wandered, the sky filled with radiation, and the world that emerged from the other side of it looked nothing like the world that went in.
The Neanderthals didn't survive it. For those who lived through it, it must have felt like the end of days, as everything that had been orienting the world - the invisible architecture that told every creature where north was - briefly, catastrophically, ceased to function. Nothing could calibrate - the entire navigational architecture of the world lost coherence all at once, before slowly, painfully, reorganising around something new.
In the coming months, the sky tells us we will experience this ourselves - not a geological polar shift, not land masses slipping all over the Earth’s mantle, but the geopolitical and spiritual equivalent. That is where we are, not in the rock and ice, but in the architecture of power.
The stars just birthed the seed of a new reality when Saturn met Neptune at the first degrees of Aries, and like clockwork the old world has begun tearing itself apart. This is the beginning of the shift, and the sky tells us it is going to get much more turbulent these next few months.
This week is the breath before the battering - the last relatively quiet week before the intensity arrives in earnest. From April, the noise of the dying world becomes nearly unbearable. If what we have already lived through this year feels like a great deal, the sky says we have not yet seen the half of it.
It’s going to feel intense.
It’s going to feel turbulent.
It’s going to feel violent.
It’s going to feel like the end of the world.
But it is not the end of the world - it is the end of a world, one that was never built to last, and the compass spinning is not a sign that north has disappeared. It is a sign that north is moving.
By the end of July, the new frequency locks in, overriding the old, and the chaos and calamity settles as we emerge from the rubble blinking in the light of something genuinely new. Not peace fully formed, and not a new reality delivered whole, but the bones of a beginning. The foundation of something better, quietly taking shape beneath our feet.
There is a way to navigate what comes without fear. Nothing that is happening now, and nothing that is about to happen, is designed to destroy us - we are being shaken so that everything which can no longer come with us gets left behind. How we experience these next months depends almost entirely on how tightly we cling to what the fire is already coming for.
