This is a peek behind the curtain at how the Letters from the New Earth are constructed, anchored in the next century of sky.
The Letters are written as missives from our descendants, a hundred years from now, thanking us for holding the line through these years, and every line of them is built on the map written in the stars. Each era the descendants describe, each turning point and each year they name, is anchored to a real movement of the planets.
Underneath the Letters sits a map of the next hundred years of astrology: every great meeting of the outer planets between now and 2126, every time a slow-moving planet changes sign, the birth charts of the nations, and wherever history allows, the last time the sky looked the same and what happened on Earth when it did. The full map runs to thousands of pages - it’s dense and layered, which is why it’s shared first in mythic form, through the Letters. It’s the architecture behind the poetry and the scaffolding behind the story.
The seventh Letter, The Future of Faith, makes the claim that the horror we’re watching right now (the cross wrapped in a flag, scripture quoted over the rubble of Gaza, the files opening on what was done to children in the care of the churches) is the last stand of the God the mind built, made in the image of our fear. And it says that the horror is surfacing so it can finally be seen, named and put down, which is a big thing to say, but it comes straight from the sky. Read on and you’ll see.
